What Dog Is Stronger Than A German Shepherd

If you are looking out for a dog that has strength and intelligence to carry out tasks, you might be wondering what other dog breeds are as strong or even stronger than the German Shepherd.

Well, there are a few other dog breeds that are bigger and stronger than the German Shepherd but in this article, we would have our focus on the Rottweiler.

What Dog Is Stronger Than A German Shepherd

Physical Strength

Like the German Shepherds, Rottweilers are large dogs that were originally bred as working dogs. They are well recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and are one of the most popular dogs around.

In time past, they were used as police and military dogs, but they are seldom used now due to their extremely intimidating body build, strong bites and aggressive nature. They could do a lot of harm as police or military dogs.

Till this moment, they are still used as protection dogs and can be great guard dogs for families, if well trained and socialized to relate well with people and other pets around.

Rottweilers are a lot bigger than German Shepherds in weight and even in their body builds. Rottweilers were bred to herd cattle and pull meat-filled carts to the marketplace, thus their muscles are a lot stronger than that of the German Shepherd.

Paling the 238pounds bite force of the German Shepherd, the Rottweiler has a bite force of 328pounds. This breed of dogs have one of the strongest jaw muscles in dog history and do not hesitate to put those muscles to use.

The Rottweiler breed came about as a result of the coming togeth of Germans in Rottweil to create a strong, large-sized hybrid dog for the sole purpose of pulling their meat carts and protecting their money, cattle and owners. These Germans decided to crossbreed their sheepdogs with Roman Mastiffs

Of course, their plan was successful and their purpose achieved. The Rottweiler grew into an intimidating dog both in stature and facial expression. The Rottweiler has a mean face!

For each of these breeds, their heights and weight vary in their male and female.

  • An adult male German Shepherd is about 61-66cm tall and weighs about 30-41kg.
  • An adult female German Shepherd is about 56-61cm tall and weighs about 23-32kg.
  • They are small in comparison with the Rottweiler, especially in weight.
  • An adult male Rottweiler is about 61-68cm tall and weighs about 43-61kg.
  • An adult female Rottweiler is about 56-63cm tall and weighs about 36-45kg.

Although these two dog breeds are quite different in their builds and strength, they still possess some similarities, which makes each of them unique and strong in their own ways.

Temperaments And Personalities

Physical strength is however not all that determines the strength of a dog. Personalities and temperaments also play a big role in the measurement of their strength. How a dog reacts to stress, anxiety, other pets or human actions says a lot about the strength of his personality.

Let’s take a look at the temperaments and personalities of both dogs, their strengths and weaknesses.

When it comes to socialization of dogs, Rottweilers come behind in comparison to the German Shepherd. This is why Rottweilers are more liable to be fearful and aggressive.

Not withstanding this fact, reports show that German Shepherds have more amounts of bite attempts, bites and snapping towards their owners, than Rottweilers  Rottweilers are more aggressive towards strangers.

Judging by these finding, we cannot really say for a fact that one dog has a stronger personality than the other as both of them gain and lose points in one area or the other.
